Each cartridge combines three stages in one drop-in unit — a cotton mesh pre-filter, activated carbon, and ion-exchange resin — to trap hair, food particles and sediment, reduce odours and impurities, and soften hard tap water.
The filter is the only part of the fountain that wears out. A fresh cartridge restores the full flow rate, keeps debris away from the pump, and prevents the stale taste that makes cats stop drinking. Replace every 2–4 weeks depending on how many cats use the fountain and how hard your water is.
Choose from 8, 16 and 24-piece packs — roughly 4–6, 8–12 and 12–18 months of cover for a single-cat household. Larger packs bring the cost per filter down.

Every four to six weeks for one cat. Change them sooner if you have several pets or live somewhere with hard water.
An 8-piece pack covers roughly a year for a single-cat household. The 16 and 24-piece packs work out cheaper per filter and suit multi-cat homes or two fountains.
How to fit a new filter +
Unplug the pump and lift the lid. Take the old cartridge out of its housing, rinse the housing under the tap, then drop the new filter in. Refill to the line and plug back in.
Rinse a new filter for a few seconds before fitting to clear any loose carbon dust.
